Your own Databases in Ask.com (Toolbar +Ask)

What is happening with Ask.com? They certainly decided to put some extra effort (and money) in it. Not only did they started a new search service for blogs, it is now also possible to make a connection to your our own collection of search databases & resources. The default search engine for the Effectivebrand.com Toolbar is Ask.com. If you have an EffectiveBrand Toolbar like the QuickSearch CMB Toolbar you can add (almost) ALL of your exclusive databases to search via the Toolbar. In that case all users HAVE to install the Toolbar. However, there can be a lot of reasons why someone is not able (or allowed) to install it at their work. Now they can use -for the search function of the Toolbar at least- the following link: http://search.platformaonline.com/Results.aspx?q=patellar+tendon+rupture&ctid=CT142118 This link merges the Ask.com search engine with the databases from the CMB Toolbar via the EffectiveBrand site. The result is that anybody can see and use all "our"databases (with licensing limits including possible remote access) within "just" the webbrowser. That way users (can have):
  • direct access to all licensed databases and other services with óne click.
  • do not have to repeat their search terms, just click the next database
  • do not need to install the Toolbar for the search functions.
  • access the databases from all over the world. You just need a web-browser & internet.
  • your library collection visible in the their environment

The nice thing is: the selection of links stay on top of your browser window. Room for improvement: please insert this in the advanced option as well-;)

Oh, i forgot to tell that you can paste the html-codes into your pages to create the ASK Search Box in your own website (if your CMS let's you)

Hi Guus, Did you see that it doesn't work anymore the way it did? No more top frame with the databases alas :-( Perhaps it is just temporary, let's hope so.

Updates from Journal Apps (BrowZine, docwise, ReadbyQxMD, Docphin)

Here a short overview of all new updates around the Journal apps we are supporting. Personally I am most excited about the anouncements of " docwise " making big steps to keep up with BrowZine & Read (Integration -"Open in"- with Dropbox, Evernote and more, save and email full text articles), but making a hug jump with unique features, like shareable Folders with docwise users ánd a RSS reader feature (boldly called Google Reader replacement!). Bring it on! BrowZine : just published the Android Version of their App to which the CMB UMCG now has a subscription. To be downloaded from Google Play Store or Amazon App Store the following publishers have been added  Project MUSE Cambridge University Press American Marketing Association Academy of Management Royal Society of Chemistry Institute of Physics American Physical Society Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) American Geophysical Union International Society for Optics a...

KOPERNIO extension to find PDF's : plus Open Access button, Unpaywall, Google Scholar and Connect UPDATED!

UPDATE:  Clarivate Analytics Acquires Research Startup Kopernio to Accelerate Pace of Scientific Innovation I am currently testing 4 browser extensions in Chrome that can help me find the PDF i need. They seem to be popping up like dandelions in the fields ;-) (Please read my post on ALL possible options to get to a PDF:  http://digicmb.blogspot.nl/2017/03/how-to-get-pdf-infographic.html ) Here is a first glance of what they do. For testing i used this article: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.cub.2016.10.008   (not free or open access) Kopernio (previously  Canary Haz ( http://kopernio.com) Note this is a .com extension. This  new company  has been founded just 8 months ago. The Kopernio  extension was released just in March 2017. Currently the Kopernio button is in alpha-testing and so far it seems free. The previous name appeared to be a tribute to the #ICANHAZPDF movement (requesting pdf's via Twitter with this hashtag). ...

Make RSS feed from any Facebook Page

You could ask why on earth do you want that....   Well, simply to insert the feed into a feed reader or make all posts/updates available in an "aggregator" like Rebelmouse.com.  With Rebelmouse you can create your own social media Frontpage (and blog) based on various social media accounts, searches AND RSS feeds. ( More on Rebelmouse and the power of curation  ) Say I want to add Facebook posts ánd images from the page Inuit Art Zone  into a Rebelmouse I made about Inuit Art . Rebelmouse offers to add My Pages via my facbook account, but other pages can only be entered via RSS. You only need TWO things :  the base url string for the RSS feed:  http://www.facebook.com/feeds/page.php?format=rss20&id= the Facebook ID of the page: Find the Facebook (Page) ID Add the ID at the end of the url string and you have a complete working RSS feed! For   Inuit Art Zone  the RSS feed would be: http://www.facebook.com/fee...
