QuickSearch Box instead of your Library Toolbar?

Ok, the Library Toolbar for offering a quicksearch to your users is very cool, but many organizations are still very reluctant to offer this Tool via their networks, afraid of all kinds of things, limited by their network infrastructure. The extra strong part of these Toolbars is that you can generate a search facility on ANY WEBPAGE within your website or Intranet (but again: the chosen CMS or webpublising software can prevent you ussing this as well -;( It is easy to make a seperate searchbox that uses the Toolbars congiguration. And now I did create a QuickSearch Box for some resources in the QuickSearch Library Toolbar to see how it would look like: -------------------------------------------------- TEST PORTABLE SEARCHBOX CMB in these sections --Most Important--: RUGCombine 5-in-1 Embase.com PubMed -- Most USED -- PubMed UpToDate Google Scholar E-JOURNALS CATALOGUS AccessMedicine BioMed Central Cinahl Clinical Evidence Cochrane DAREn...

Tag Cloud for MedlibBLOG and Consumer Health Search engine?

With the really cool Medlibblog search and the Consumer Health and Patient Education search engines we have two very nice options to search, but I wonder if it is possible to produce somehow: a Tag Cloud of these CSE resources or even get an RSS-feed on all that is new? Instead of searching we could browse and see what's new & hot. Who knows how to tackle this the best way? My first guess would be: collect all RSS-feeds of included resources and insert them in a new blog/site. We already have these feeds on the wiki about Medical Librarians blogging. ?

Web 2.0 Toolbar available: where is the Library 2.0 Toolbar?

In Their Newsletter of December Conduit shows the very nice Web 2.0 Toolbar that has come available, including all SUBMIT features from all kinds of bookmark sites. Hope they can keep up .... When is somebody going to make a Library 2.0 Toolbar with all possible and avialabe features and gadgets? (I know about a script in Second Life that randomly presents an Library 2.0 Issue/Idea in a pop-up screen display , just to show off.) Come to think of it, I somehow remember that this was published on the web before ... I will get back on that. Some Aussies I think -;) Ok, found it:THE LIBRARY 2.0 IDEAS GENERATOR http://www.daveyp.com/blog/index.php/archives/106/ Want to see all of them on the Whiteboard? Or the The Library 2.0 Equation Generator?

EPn-report "The Second Life of Virtual reality"

Finally the English version of the EPN-report on Second Life is available. You can ask for the pdf by sending an email to: info@epn.net They have done a interesting survey into who is involved in Second Life and came up with some surprising conclusions about what people are looking for in Sl! From the Management summary: "EPN explored the consequences of the fusion of virtual and physical reality in the areas of economics, rights and well-being by researching the new opportunities which this fusion offers our society. " Here are some of the most interesting conclusions: A considerable portion of those surveyed stated that they spend more than 20 hours a week in the virtual world, Second Life. A large group indicates that more than 30 hours would be the amount of time which they spend there. It is striking that those surveyed who spend considerable time in Second Life frequently belong to the creative or IT professions. Many of those surveyed who indicated that they spend c...

Evidence-based Library & Information Practice EBLIP4

I am glad to work with someone like Carol Perryman in Second Life (Carolina Keats) and now it turns out she is very much involved in Evidence-based librarianship as well! She is Co-Chair of the EBLIP4 and together with Andrew Booth in the Executive Organizing Committee. She asked me to post about the extension of the Submission deadline. No problem Carol! The Submission deadline for EBLIP4 has been extended to Jan 5, 2007. The Evidence Based Library and Information Practice Conference ( EBLIP4 ) is an exciting international event that has emerged in response to the growing interest among all types of libraries in using the best available research-based evidence to improve information practice. The conference on May 6-9, 2007 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina will be followed by two days of CE. The conference provides a forum for the presentation of high quality papers and posters as well as examples of how EBLIP is being implemented in library and information settings around ...
