The ICT -term  Plan 2010-2014 of the University of Groningen is a Blueprint for IT spending over the next five years in the field of ICT and innovations. The plan is compiled by the university’s ICT Strategy Committee. The plan includes five areas within which ICT is applied research, education, scientific information, organization and infrastructure. Today I put the pages online that form the so-called "Medical Library Lab" of the Central Medical Library of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). It is the first draft of a set of pages that will change frequently.  The intension is to offer an up-to-date overview of available tools, tips & trics created by the library for end-user to enhance their own desktop, browser, network or mobile. Please have a look at another practical use for a Netvibes Public Page . Here is the first draft of the "Corporate Web Presence Scan" for the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). It was created to support the group inside the hospital that is preparing a sort of  a"Social Media Plan & Policy" for the hospital. The Scan makes it very clear and visible what the Web Presence of the UMCG is. It can be followed day by day, and shows rss-feeds, and Saved Searches where no RSS was available or possible. Any suggestions for adding stuff? The last Tab contains a tool that almost automatically creates a simular Web Presences Scan, called SocialMention

Here is my talk  on Virtual Research Networks, where I try to paint a picture around researchers not only disconnecting from the library, but in growning numbers even by-passing the library , using clever applications and web 2.0 technology. In general they use the general social network tools, like Facebook and Linkedin. They also build their own networks with tools like Ning, ánd -most important- third parties (mostly commerical) develop tools intended to "capture" the researchers in their so-called "workflow" tools. One possible way for libraries to respond, could be: work together with your key stakeholders in your organization on developing a " Virtual Research Environment" (VRE) .
