Bring your Library to the User : LIBRARY TOOLBAR

I ran across the website of EffectiveBrand, www.effectivebrand.com. They offer -completly free- to host your Toolbar and developed an easy-peasy buildingtool via the web. It is really just copy&paste and making some choices. If you know how to do it, it is really "a piece of cake". At http://quicksearchcmbtoolbar.ourtoolbar.com/ you can read all about it ánd download the Toolbar for Internet Explorer or FireFox.

What does the QuickSearchCMB Toolbar do for the user?
	Direct access to our website from anywhere on the web
	Immediate searching in QuickSearch Medicine van RUGCombine (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Biological Abstracts en Psychinfo)
	Immediate searching in Pubmed Immediate searching in your Library Catalogue Displaying Newsitems of your library without you having to go to the website (RSS-feed)
	View the latest UMCG dissertations in the Repository RUG (RSS-feed)
	Chatting with users who also are using the Toolbar
	Allows you to adjust the Toolbar
	Highlighting of your searchresults on any page
	Direct Acces to the Virtual Information Desk of your Library
	This is a first test-version, but promising. There are many other features and options, which I will explain later. First I want to make it possible to our users they can use this. For that I have to ask the IT-departments to make downloads and installations possible. You needs -at least for installation- enough rights. These rights are not alway allowed within the network. More later!

Updates from Journal Apps (BrowZine, docwise, ReadbyQxMD, Docphin)

Here a short overview of all new updates around the Journal apps we are supporting. Personally I am most excited about the anouncements of " docwise " making big steps to keep up with BrowZine & Read (Integration -"Open in"- with Dropbox, Evernote and more, save and email full text articles), but making a hug jump with unique features, like shareable Folders with docwise users ánd a RSS reader feature (boldly called Google Reader replacement!). Bring it on! BrowZine : just published the Android Version of their App to which the CMB UMCG now has a subscription. PubMed Search & News Widget

OK, I think Toolbars are great for quick easy access to search databases, free or licensed databases. Users can use this jumpstart search to get to their preferred search engines direct from their browser window. But not everybody is allowed to install browser plugins or add-ons. To distribute the Toolbar functionality like the search & news options, I create derived widgets that can be used as a whole in many social networks , websites and intranet sites, everywhere where it is allowed to put up html. The PubMed Search & News Widget is the latest one. I just got confirmation from Widgetbox that they approved it. "Derived" in this case, means, the widget is using the PubMed Toolbar installed custom searches and the installed rss-feed of PubMed New & Noteworthy . KOPERNIO extension to find PDF's : plus Open Access button, Unpaywall, Google Scholar and Connect UPDATED!

UPDATE: Clarivate Analytics Acquires Research Startup Kopernio to Accelerate Pace of Scientific Innovation I am currently testing 4 browser extensions in Chrome that can help me find the PDF i need.
