QuickSearch Library Toolbar : progress report 2

The last progress report was on December 20th 2005. Now also on Windows '98. Since then the QuickSearch CMB Library Toolbar has become also available for UMCG staff using Windows '98, BUT they have to use the Firefox Internet Browser to make the Toolbar work. Not yet on UMCG WNS Unfortunately I still do not have permission to offer the Toolbar in the new UMCG desktop WNS ("Workplace New Style") as an application the users can choose to work with. The only workaround would be to launch Portable Firefox from a usb-stick and run it from there..... Usage and downloads Last week the number of downloads has reached the : 360, Active users has risen to a concurrent max of :91 per day. Actions taken from the Toolbar add up to almost : 20.000 from the start and about : 170 per day. The total amount of searches : 12.712( Thanks to a specific report from EffectiveBrand) So the Toolbar is now available since November 1st 2005 and on 5 different ways: 1. IE installation within standard student network of the University, section Medicine. Available in Library Services. Windows XP with NAL 2. IE installation within standard staff network of the UMCG (former Faculty of Medicine). Available in Library Services. Windows XP with NAL 3. IE Download from website for use OUTSIDE student or staff network 4. FireFox download from website for use OUTSIDE student or staff network 5. for UMCG staff download from website using Windows '98, BUT they have to use the Firefox Internet Browser to make the Toolbar work. (6. for UMCG Staff WNS to launch Portable Firefox from a usb-stick and run it from there..... , but I advise to wait for the official approval and application via the network.) Latest changes? PODCAST via Radio To demonstrate the possibilities of the Toolbar I included the Radio option and added the following Podcast Feeds to the Toolbar: - NEJM Audio Issue Summary - NEJM Interview - Nature Podcast - Conversations in Medicine and - Anatomy Podcast Resources / Search Options * Faculty of 1000 Medicine trial till April 15th 2006 * Midwifery and Infant Care (MIDIRS) QuickLinks for Staff and Students The section Go! now contains a sub-menu with quicklinks for students and staff of the University to -for instance- the central: - Electronic Learning Environment (NESTOR) - email facilities - Oracle Calendar - Off Campus access to network drives (NetStorage) - MSN Messenger and Hotmail The number of available resources for searching is still increasing, as is the total amount of e-Books. The E-Books section, the Tips & tricks and the Info-section offer now a very useful sub-menu option. It is now possible to include the complete content -as in links to- of the Library website. The three RSS news feeds that are available: Library News. As soon as there is a newsitem put on the Library Website, it will show in the Toolbar UMCG Publications in PubMed. As soon as there is a new article of an author from the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) entered INTO PUBMED, it will show in the Toolbar! Tables of Content of BMJ, LANCET, NEJM, JAMA and NATURE. As soon as there are new articles of these journals entered INTO PUBMED, it will show in the Toolbar! The promised short user survey has to wait, due to physical mishap. Any questions? Please comment!

Updates from Journal Apps (BrowZine, docwise, ReadbyQxMD, Docphin)

Here a short overview of all new updates around the Journal apps we are supporting. Personally I am most excited about the anouncements of " docwise " making big steps to keep up with BrowZine & Read (Integration -"Open in"- with Dropbox, Evernote and more, save and email full text articles), but making a hug jump with unique features, like shareable Folders with docwise users ánd a RSS reader feature (boldly called Google Reader replacement!). Bring it on! BrowZine : just published the Android Version of their App to which the CMB UMCG now has a subscription. To be downloaded from Google Play Store or Amazon App Store the following publishers have been added  Project MUSE Cambridge University Press American Marketing Association Academy of Management Royal Society of Chemistry Institute of Physics American Physical Society Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) American Geophysical Union International Society for Optics a...

KOPERNIO extension to find PDF's : plus Open Access button, Unpaywall, Google Scholar and Connect UPDATED!

UPDATE:  Clarivate Analytics Acquires Research Startup Kopernio to Accelerate Pace of Scientific Innovation I am currently testing 4 browser extensions in Chrome that can help me find the PDF i need. They seem to be popping up like dandelions in the fields ;-) (Please read my post on ALL possible options to get to a PDF:  http://digicmb.blogspot.nl/2017/03/how-to-get-pdf-infographic.html ) Here is a first glance of what they do. For testing i used this article: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.cub.2016.10.008   (not free or open access) Kopernio (previously  Canary Haz ( http://kopernio.com) Note this is a .com extension. This  new company  has been founded just 8 months ago. The Kopernio  extension was released just in March 2017. Currently the Kopernio button is in alpha-testing and so far it seems free. The previous name appeared to be a tribute to the #ICANHAZPDF movement (requesting pdf's via Twitter with this hashtag). ...

Make RSS feed from any Facebook Page

You could ask why on earth do you want that....   Well, simply to insert the feed into a feed reader or make all posts/updates available in an "aggregator" like Rebelmouse.com.  With Rebelmouse you can create your own social media Frontpage (and blog) based on various social media accounts, searches AND RSS feeds. ( More on Rebelmouse and the power of curation  ) Say I want to add Facebook posts ánd images from the page Inuit Art Zone  into a Rebelmouse I made about Inuit Art . Rebelmouse offers to add My Pages via my facbook account, but other pages can only be entered via RSS. You only need TWO things :  the base url string for the RSS feed:  http://www.facebook.com/feeds/page.php?format=rss20&id= the Facebook ID of the page: Find the Facebook (Page) ID Add the ID at the end of the url string and you have a complete working RSS feed! For   Inuit Art Zone  the RSS feed would be: http://www.facebook.com/fee...
