Meeting the Dutch colleagues! Medical librarians meet up in Utrecht

I guess there must have been more than 100 colleagues from all over Dutch medical libraries and it was really exiting for me to finally have a opportunity to tell my story about the "User Environment" for a Dutch audience. It is a bit weird that I got to keep this presentation in Romania, Iceland and Norway first. But hey, i am not complaining about this! It is great to visit colleagues abroad in simular situations, exchange experiences and share knowledge and ideas.

The topic of the afternoon was " Time for Quality & Quality Management for medical libraries". Most interesting according to others (because presenters could not follow any other talk ;-)was the presentation of Marie-José Lampe about "Marketingcommunication and libraries" br>
Furthermore there was a very good 3-part talk on searching, databases and reporting focussing on the need for good search-representation from Rikie Deurenberg, Ingrid Riphagen and Hans Ket. I hope these powerpoints will be online very soon too!

I had about 45 minutes and had to do the talk twice with a 15 minutes break. That proved to be too little and hard (the time allowed ánd the break ;-). You could also say that I made my old same mistake again of trying to include too much in too little time. Especially the second time, we did not get into the Second Life part. I am very sorry for that. Therefore I include the Slideshare presentation in here as well. It contains the Second Life and Livetrix slides. Just contact me if you want to have the original powerpoint!

I must really thank my boss Annalies Koelstra for allowing me to travel all over Europe, also coming year! She is all in favour of collaboration, communication and sharing of information between colleagues. I have been invited to give a speech at the Inforum 2007 conference in Prague and at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm August. My involvement with Second Life Libraries is giving me the opportunity to meet up with my us-colleagues at the Internet Librarian International 2007 Conference in London, hopefully in co-presenting a talk about this Sl Library project. We are busy writing a book about it, in which there will be a chapter on the HealthInfo Island project, etc..

In Krakow I will be giving two Workshops, one with Oliver Obst about Weblogs and Mashups Services and one about "Making Your Own Library Toolbar" together with Dorien Kieft-Wondergem, my CMB colleague. Who said life is boring?

Hey Guus, interesting to read your slides and that you presented as my successor in 2006. I embeddedd your slideshare on the article i wrote last year, along with my slides.

Updates from Journal Apps (BrowZine, docwise, ReadbyQxMD, Docphin)

Here a short overview of all new updates around the Journal apps we are supporting. Personally I am most excited about the anouncements of " docwise " making big steps to keep up with BrowZine & Read (Integration -"Open in"- with Dropbox, Evernote and more, save and email full text articles), but making a hug jump with unique features, like shareable Folders with docwise users ánd a RSS reader feature (boldly called Google Reader replacement!). Bring it on! BrowZine : just published the Android Version of their App to which the CMB UMCG now has a subscription. To be downloaded from Google Play Store or Amazon App Store the following publishers have been added  Project MUSE Cambridge University Press American Marketing Association Academy of Management Royal Society of Chemistry Institute of Physics American Physical Society Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) American Geophysical Union International Society for Optics a...

KOPERNIO extension to find PDF's : plus Open Access button, Unpaywall, Google Scholar and Connect UPDATED!

UPDATE:  Clarivate Analytics Acquires Research Startup Kopernio to Accelerate Pace of Scientific Innovation I am currently testing 4 browser extensions in Chrome that can help me find the PDF i need. They seem to be popping up like dandelions in the fields ;-) (Please read my post on ALL possible options to get to a PDF:  http://digicmb.blogspot.nl/2017/03/how-to-get-pdf-infographic.html ) Here is a first glance of what they do. For testing i used this article: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.cub.2016.10.008   (not free or open access) Kopernio (previously  Canary Haz ( http://kopernio.com) Note this is a .com extension. This  new company  has been founded just 8 months ago. The Kopernio  extension was released just in March 2017. Currently the Kopernio button is in alpha-testing and so far it seems free. The previous name appeared to be a tribute to the #ICANHAZPDF movement (requesting pdf's via Twitter with this hashtag). ...

Make RSS feed from any Facebook Page

You could ask why on earth do you want that....   Well, simply to insert the feed into a feed reader or make all posts/updates available in an "aggregator" like Rebelmouse.com.  With Rebelmouse you can create your own social media Frontpage (and blog) based on various social media accounts, searches AND RSS feeds. ( More on Rebelmouse and the power of curation  ) Say I want to add Facebook posts ánd images from the page Inuit Art Zone  into a Rebelmouse I made about Inuit Art . Rebelmouse offers to add My Pages via my facbook account, but other pages can only be entered via RSS. You only need TWO things :  the base url string for the RSS feed:  http://www.facebook.com/feeds/page.php?format=rss20&id= the Facebook ID of the page: Find the Facebook (Page) ID Add the ID at the end of the url string and you have a complete working RSS feed! For   Inuit Art Zone  the RSS feed would be: http://www.facebook.com/fee...
